Thinking of a house for oneself, architect or not, is a continuous exercise in maturity. Constantly observing how we inhabit — and how the environment can reinforce or hinder behavior — hands us a detailed brief; and as architects we can reflect far beyond the organization of drawers.

From this came the annual essays in which I imagine the ideal house for my current life. The 2025 answer is a house where social and private life are separated by floor, and the utility area occupies the “heart of the house”, with easy access to the entrance, living room, kitchen, garden and bedrooms.
